It is officially Fall. Leaves are changing, college football has started, chili is simmering, and here in GA, lakes are appearing on the interstate. I think we can all agree that God has answered the prayer for rain. I read a status on Facebook earlier that said “If you are one of the people that keep praying for rain, stop.” Haha. Unfortunately, a lot of people have lost EVERYTHING. Home insurance doesn’t typically come with flood coverage, so a lot of people are in need. Be praying big time for those specific people. I will also have some info at the end of this to where you can actually donate and help some of those people out. So check that.

If you know me well, you know that the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has a HUGE spot in my heart. When I was in high school, I was very involved with FCA. In fact, that’s where God called me into the ministry. A coach named Doug Mullican started our FCA my freshman year and took me under his wing. He was crazy enough to make me captain of the club. Our first meeting we had about 15 kids show up. By the end of my senior year 1/3 of the school was coming, which at the time was around 150-200 kids showing up at FCA. It was the biggest club in the school. It was probably the most memorable thing for me about high school. A week ago, I got a call from a kid named Cody about me coming to sing at the opening FCA meeting at my alma mater. I went and WOW was I blessed. It’s been 4 years since I’ve been in high school. The kids who are now in charge of FCA were completely ruling it. It was amazing and such an honor to see something that I watched grow into a huge deal STILL be a huge deal by new generation. Cody called me yesterday and said, “I’m gonna as you a really rude question. Can you sing at See You at The Pole…like tomorrow?!” haha. Stuff like that is not normally something that I do, but I accepted because of how impressed I was with him at the FCA meeting. I got there this morning at 6:45 and Cody and his girlfriend were there setting up. Around 30 kids showed up. I sang a few songs, Cody gave the message and then the kids prayed. And man…it just hit me hard. Here was a 16 year-old-kid, no huge resume of leadership, not much support from adults in the area, and he was completely rocking it. Now, there are people that would read this and think, “It was 30 kids and a little prayer thingy, Haley. Not a big thing” But it is in such a bigger way than we know. I remember being a 14 year-old and singing and speaking in front of people and being scared out of my wit. I can even recall sometimes where people discouraged me because of my age and because I was a girl (still happens even now sometimes). I also remember people like Doug Mullican, who encouraged me and even challenged me to be boldly vocal for Christ. Coach Mullican saw something that I didn’t at the time. I was part of the generation who was going to eventually be leading the body…and whether I liked it or not, that position was quickly sliding under my feet. I had a huge responsibility, like it or not.

Watching Cody reminded me of that this morning. Doesn’t matter how young or old you are, you’re influencing someone- like it or not(notice how I keep saying like it or not). Also, I think it’s important to remember how incredibly important it is to encourage our younger generation. They will one day be our pastors, worship leaders, missionaries, etc. It’s important that we let them get started now in their own ministry and not hold them back or discourage them. I believe the children are our future… blah :)

Holler:)

WOW. I STINK at blogging regularly. I’m sorry! But I’m back now!

I hope everyone had an AMAZING summer now that it’s coming to an end. Jeremy and I did FCA/youth camps all summer and are just getting settled in to be home for a little break. We went everywhere in between Pensecola, FL and Costa Mesa, CA. It was CRAZY. It was such a good time though and I am beginning to miss it. If you’re someone we met or got to see this summer, I hope you had just as much of a ridiculously good time as I did. More than anything though, I hope you still have the same fire in your heart as you did the day you were leaving camp. If ya don’t, this might help some.

When I was in high school, I went to FCA and church camp every year. There is no feeling like the feeling you get at camp. You feel like you can take on the world. Then you get home. I don’t know about you, but for me, the realization that I was home and it’s wasn’t like camp anymore was a really hard thing for me to deal with. All the junk that I had in my life before camps was waiting for me when I got back. For some reason I thought because I had changed, I thought my situations at home had done the same thing. That wasn’t the case. What I did figure out is that’s what camp was for. God provided me with camp in order to go home and change those situations, I just had to have the guts to do it.

Another huge difference was that I had GREAT support from home. Not everyone does, infact I’m lucky I did. So- with that said…if you are struggeling to keep the fire burning bright then here are some steps.

1. Get in to the word, EVERYDAY. 2. Find a good, Bible teaching church that you enjoy and GET INVOLVED. If you don’t know of one, talk to your coach that took you to FCA camp. 3. GET INVOLVED with Christian friends. You can find some at FCA. 4. Exclude yourself, meaning STAY AWAY FROM, people or surroundings that tempt you to slip in your walk. For example. If I have a boyfriend who I “do stuff” with, he’s making me stumble in my walk. I need to DUMP him. If a certain group of friends cause me to act or talk a different way that’s unpleasing to God, then I need to find some new friends. Don’t mean that you gotta be mean to those old friends, just means you gotta surround yourself with people that won’t make you slip. 5. Find me and your huddle leader (for FCA camps) on facebook/myspace. You need support. I’ll be more than glad to pray for you, all you gotta do is send a message. I really encourage you to contact your huddle leader and maintain that relationship. They can be some of the biggest supporters you have and will definetely keep you accountable.
Myspace for me: Myspace.com/HaleyMorganSmith
Facebook for me: Facebook.com/HaleyMorganSmith
6. Quit watching CRAP (I can say that word, cause that’s what it is). Turn off the stupid stuff. If it’s something you’d be embarrassed of Jesus seeing you watch, turn it off. 7. Quit listening to CRAP. Turn off the nasty music. We can talk about how you like the beat or music ALL day long, but it comes down to this- Satan uses those lyrics to enter your heart. Guard yourselves.

On that note, here as some replacements for music. This is who we played when ya’ll walked in every night.
1. LeCrae 2. Flame 3. Ambassador 4. Fresh Digress 5. Kirk Franklin 6. Mary Mary
Check those artists out. Google them.
There is nothing and will never be anything more important than your relationship with Christ. If there is anything in your life you need to work at, it’s your relationship with Him. He does not leave or forsake. Make sure you put Him first.

Love each and everyone of ya’s :)

I will be on TV 57 this Monday at 7:00-9:00pm on a show called Atlanta Live. SO, you should watch it! For GA residents who have DirecTV, I’m fairly confident that it’s channel 57 on your TV(cause that’s what I have). For others I’m not so sure, but this is the statement TV 57 makes about it:

“From nationally-known evangelists and gospel musicians to your neighbors down the street, ATLANTA LIVE features a wide range of guests sharing stories that inspire and music that ministers.

ATLANTA LIVE is WATC TV’s flagship program airing live weeknights from 7-9 p.m. with encore presentations every weekday morning from 7-9 a.m. In addition, one hour of ATLANTA LIVE is seen nationwide on NRB Network seen on DirecTV every weekday morning at 8 a.m. (ET).”

So…there ya go. WATCH IT!!! and pray I don’t do something embarrassing, like faint. It happens. To prove it watch THIS.

Eh, way to just stand there and look at her dude in the jacket. I love how she just keeps talking till she finally hits the ground. Amazing. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen Monday:)

Holler:)

Well, I just got home from the Orange Conference and...

Hey Hey!

Well, I just got home from the Orange Conference and it was A-MA-ZING. Seriously it was ridiculous. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to play at the conference and well as working with Rethink. They are a phenomenal group of people. If you are in a church leadership position, I urge you to look at going next year. It will take your level of ministry to a way higher level. It’s crazy not to want to take advantage of that. Anyway- like I said it was amazing. I’ll get some pictures up on my facebook and myspace soon, so be ready for that.

I also wanted to give you guys a little SURPRISE. A couple of months ago I went and recorded a song for Rethinks new worship album that’s about to be released. I thought it would be cool to let you guys be there first to hear it. So, without anymore waiting- here it is!

If you like what you hear, buy it on Rethink or Amber Sky Records website!

iLike

Hello party people,

I now have my own page on the website iLike. It’s a cool page for fans to interact with. You can look at any videos I put up or that fans put up of me. You can listen and buy different songs that I’ve done, even some that I don’t actually sell myself. You can put my music on your facebook. You can check out pictures and any new albums or singles I put out. You can send me messages on my wall. You can request that I come to your town and show some Haymoe love(that was extremely corny, I know). You can put links up on your facebook or myspace. You get the point. You can do a lot of stuff. So check that out! Here the link: iLike.com

I hope you all had an AWESOME Easter. I did. This year I actually took off in order to be at my own church’s Easter service. I am pretty sure I have never been at my church for an Easter service (because I usually am singing somewhere else, not because I’m a “heathen”), so I REALLY enjoyed being there with my church family. My pastor did a stellar job with his message. He talked about the huge sacrifice that Jesus made, the power he had(has) and how he he took every step in detail, and how we should live our lives like everyday is Easter. I thought that was a really interesting point. We make a huge deal about this one day each year and then forget that the same Jesus lives, has the same power and grace, and still made that same sacrifice. So in other words, we should have the same fire in our hearts as we do on Easter everyday. We should make a big deal about Jesus everyday. He is completely worthy of it and it would be unjust to give him any less. A friend of mine sent me a quote that said, “Oh what the world would be like if all of us Christians acted like everyday was Easter.” I think that’s a good point. So that’s my heart’s desire- to have the same fire in my heart every day. To give him nothing less than what he deserves. Hope it’s your too.

Holler at ya’ll later,

It’s one of the best things about traveling. I absolutely love going to different places just to eat the food of that culture. Not touristy places though, I like the places that the residents hang out at- cause that’s when you know it’s the real deal. Like in New York, the best New York style pizza is NOT in Times Square or Central Park, but right on the edge of Harlem at this little bitty place called Covo.

This past weekend, Jeremy and I went with a couple of friends to Atlanta to see Dave Barnes and Drew Holcomb (who were great by the way) in concert. Afterwards we went to eat at Gladys Knight and Ron Winans Chicken and Waffles. Jeremy and I went there a year ago, and it’s amazing. The BEST fried chicken EVER. Well, the wait was 2 hours…which is an automatic no for me. We decided to try a place called The Flying Biscuit, thinking it was going to be some other sort of southern cuisine. When we got there, it look pretty much like a small cafe, not many people there. There were things like scrambled tofu and organic oatmeal pancakes on the menu. Immediately I was thinking that this was going to be some nasty junk- I don’t do “health” food. Oh, how wrong I was. I mean DANG. I had cheese grits, grilled macaroni (yes there is such a thing), herb crusted chicken, and biscuit that would make you slap your momma twice. I mean it was GOOD. And our waiter was the nicest waiter I’ve had in a long time. So, if you’re ever in Atlanta and you want something cheap, but that tastes amazing and won’t give you an additional chin, go to Flying Biscuit. You won’t regret it.

See ya’ll,

Some pretty cool stuff is coming up pretty soon, one of them being the Radical Grace Women’s Conference that I’m doing on March 28th in Cedartown, GA. I’m suuuuuper excited about it. I’ve never actually directed a women’s thing before besides teenage girl camps- so this should be a challenge. I’m really excited to see what God does with it.

My good friends Shannen Fields and MariLou Braswell are going to be speaking. Shannen was the leading actress on Facing the Giants. She is just as delightful off the screen as she is on the screen. When you meet someone who has made it big time in the movies, you think that they’ll have that movie star attitude like “I’m a star!”. Shannen is one of the few people I can that isn’t like that. She is so real with people and definitely has a servant’s heart. MariLou is one of my heros. Anytime time I need spiritual guidance I call her. She was the UGA Cheerleading coach for several years. She is probably one of the most spiritually discplined ladies I know. So these two awesome ladies are going to be BRINGIN’ IT to the conference.

I’ll be leading worship, but I’m bringing in some other people for special music and talent. We will also be doing breakout groups(classes) for women and teen girls, so I think it’s going to be awesome.

Be lifting this up in your prayers. I would love to see God touch these ladies in a mighty way. If you are interested in coming and/or getting your church involved go to radicalgrace.eventbrite.com.

see ya,

Cool thing happened yesterday! One of my favorite speakers/pastors, Andy Stanley, had the honor of praying at President Obama’s prayer service yesterday. No matter where you stand politically, it’s always important for you to support and pray for your leaders because that’s what God tells us to do AND he’s the ultimate Commander in Chief anyway, so why worry if we believe he is who he said he is (Mark 12:17, Proverbs 16:33). What a cool thing to be able to pray infront of the President and all the people in his office. What a cool ministry opportunity. Andy is the pastor at North Point Community Church in Alpheretta, GA. He’s done some amazing things with the church as well as other churches. If you live remotely close to the area, you should check it out.

Another thing you should check out is the Rethink Group, which is an organization I’m doing some work with. If you have a family, minister to people with families, or know any families, you should check it out. That pretty much includes EVERYONE:)

Sidenote- I don’t believe I’ve felt my feet in about a week- it’s stinking cold outside. I’m ready for spring.

:) Haley

2009 Resolution...

Happy New Year!

Hope your holidays were grand and that you’re starting the new year off right. To be frank…I don’t do resolutions. I kinda think we should be under constant construction in all aspects of life, no matter what time it is. There are a lot of things I need to work on. I’d say the biggest one is worrying. I need to stop that. It’s really pointless considering God is in the driver’s seat- plus it gets on everyone’s nerves. So that’s my main one, but I still have like a billion things I need to work on besides that. So if I had to just spit out a New Year’s resolution, I’d say to work on all aspects of my life.

Anyway, my year is starting off pretty good. Tuesday, I will be in the studio to record a song for the Rethink Group. They’re doing a new worship CD for this year and I was blessed enough to be invited to sing on it. So that rocks. You should check them out, they do some ridiculously cool stuff.

I am excited to see what God does in my life this year. I hope you all are too.

Talk to you next time,

I am sad because I have to wait a whole nother dang year to hear Nat King Cole and the Carpenters. But I’m happy because my family and I had a wonderful Christmas. I am blessed beyond belief. Not many people can say they have an “awesome” family. I, however, can and I am extremely grateful for that.

So I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas, but most importantly I hope everyone remembered what Christmas was really about- not presents, not getting, not giving, but Jesus…period. His birth is one of those things that just makes him even more awesome. The fact that our King, who saved us from ourselves, was born in a barn and slept where the animals ate, is something that I can’t always wrap my head around. You would think that he would get this huge, elaborate welcome to earth, but he didn’t. And even today, he doesn’t. But he loves us anyway. What a man.

So tonight, I say Happy Birthday Jesus. Thank you for being born to die, so that I could live. I’m completely unworthy of your gifts.

Merry Christmas,

Godly man;)

This past week was mine and Jeremy’s 2 year anniversary:) I say week because I do not believe in daily celebrations- it’s never enough for me. I have to go all out whether it’s a birthday, Christmas, or whatever. One day is just not enough time.

Anyway, Tuesday, Jeremy took me to this really nice restaurant. The first thing I saw was fried okra something, so I ordered it. It turned out it was fried okra with crab meat in it. You’d think it’d be nasty, but it was actually really good. Then I ate a steak with some weird looking sauce on it. I’m not big on weird looking sauces, but it completely made the steak. It was probably THE best steak I have ever had- and I have eaten A LOT of steak.

Then on Saturday, he gave me my present which was a painting that he did for my house. It was beautiful (If you didn’t know, Jeremy is a very talented painter). Then we went to see Terry Fator in ATL. That was a lot of fun.

Best of all, we got to do something this week that not a lot of couples can say. We got to minister together. We did four concerts this week and saw around 15 people come to Christ for the first time and over 50 rededicate. I mean, yeah, it’s something that we always see because it’s apart of our job. But to me, I think it’s an amazing thing that God can use two people, not to just love each other, but to love others as well.

I’m so blessed. I think most people think that letting God bring the person he wants in your life to you is overrated. We act on impulse and try to find them ourselves which ultimately leads to failure. I am telling you, if I had to do it all again and wait with out even looking at a guy till God brought me the one he wanted in my life, I’d do it in a second.

Jeremy reminds me so much of David. He’s so passionate about EVERYTHING and so incredibly creative. He inspires me with his faith in the Lord. He is always so confident that God has got the situation under control, no matter what tragedy is falling around us. He helps me grow in Christ and that’s the most important quality you can find in a man.

So to any girl or woman in pursuit of the perfect man- STOP. When you give your life to Christ, you give your entire life to Christ which includes your love life. Give that whole deal to the Lord and let him bring you the man he has designed specifically for you. You will know when you run into him. How? He will love you as you are, but he will love Jesus even more. He will respect you, himself, and God so much that he will not trip you sexually. He will only lift you up and not tear you down to make himself feel bigger. He will be faithful to you and to God. Ultimately, he will inspire you to grow in Christ.

That’s my definition of a Godly boyfriend/husband. You can’t make one yourself, he’s already got to be like that. Never lower your standards to anything lower than that. You will never know the fullness of the love God created for man and woman if you lower your standards.

Anyway, enough with this lovey dovey crap. HAHA. I know half of you are all nauseous and stuff, so I’ll let your stomachs ease.

Talk to you later,

The full-length version of my songs are up on Myspace! YAY! Also, my Q&A blog will be up on SATURDAY-so get in the rest of what you want to know. I’ve gotten a lot so far, so thanks:)

Today, I experienced the weirdest thing. I went to a high school softball game to watch some old friends from when I was a senior and they were freshmen. They’re seniors now. It was your typical high school softball game. The girls were playing like normal, parents were around, and little kids were playing in the open space. The vice principle of the home team was sitting in front of me. Then the 3rd out was called and the teams switched places. Our team went out on the field and started warming up. All of the sudden, this horrendous noise started blaring out of the speaker. The song was “Let’s Go” by a rapper named Trick Daddy. It was popular when I was in high school. If you’re not familiar with the lyrics, here’s the chorus:

Lets Gooooo! (Lets Gooooo!)
If you want it you can get it let me know (let me know),
I’m bout to f**k a n***a up, Lets Gooooo! (Lets Gooooo!)
If you want it you can get it let me know (let me know),
I’m bout to f**k a n***a up, Lets Gooooo! (Lets Gooooo!

Immediatley, I jerked my head around and looked at the vice principle thinking, surely he’ll tell them to cut that off- it’s a school function and the song is uncensored and BLARING through the speakers. I mean I used to get in trouble for having holes in the knees of my jeans, he’s gotta jump on them for playing that stuff. But interestingly enough, he just sat there. I’m sitting there thinking how can he not hear that?!? Well, the song ends, and then another song comes up that is no better.

Some of you are thinking,” Haley, it’s just a song. The words don’t mean anything, it’s just the music that’s cool about it.” OHHHH if I had a dollar for every time someone said that. This is the deal. Every song, movie, show, etc. conveys a message, good or bad. Whether you think you are taking in that message or not, you are. Satan uses whatever his greasy hands can grab to screw your heart up. You may be thinking,”OK Haley, you’re getting all evangelistically weird on me.” I am SERIOUS as a heart attack.

Here’s some evidence. You know how you’ll be listening to a song on the radio, not really paying attention then a few hours your singing that song or it’s replaying in your head? You’re sitting there wanting the song to get out of your head and trying to figure out how it even got there? What you listen to and watch, enters your heart- whether you are aware of it or not. If all you hear about is killing, f***ing people up, beating down someone, chances are you are going to become numb to that message and then eventually numb to doing that or acting on that. If all you look at on the internet is people having sex with each other, chances are you are going to become numb to it and wanting to act on what you see.

Now, back to the issue. Here we are at a High School. Not a club or a bar, but a HIGH SCHOOL. This is where we are supposed to preparing the future leaders of our country how to go about living life. To warm-up our athlete, pump them up- we play a song about a gang(and yes that’s what the song is refering to) that walks into a club and sees some members of a different gang so they plan to kill them. And it’s not some fictional thing where they’re just trying act bad, they are actually talking about REAL gangs that they are/were apart of that really DO these types of things. Wow. What a motivational song to play. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Are we seriously OK with this message? Are we seriously willing to play this over and over in our childrens’ heads just so they can warm-up for a game?

The media is a powerful thing. That’s why I minister through it. I am hoping everytime I sing a song that someone is influenced by it and is changed by it. Just because the guys that are rapping this song aren’t giving a Christian message, doesn’t mean they don’t feel the same way. The goal is to entertain and above all to impact. SO! Be careful little eyes what you see and carefule little ears what you hear. I know all of this may sound preachy, and you all know that that is NOT what I want to do. BUT, I do want you to know truth and accept it- because not many people are giving it to you.

So yeah, I encourage you to examine what you watch and listen to before you jam out to it. Like Soulja Boy. If half the world knew what that song was really about, they would be puke. I’ll even go so far to say examine my stuff just so you know how serious I am about this. But there’s my rant! Next time will be happier I’m sure:)

Talk to you then,
